Bite marks on your body are not a reliable way to determine if you have Bed Bugs. Many insect bites look like sore red bumps.

When inspecting your living areas, open the curtains and let the sunlight stream in. It will make it much easier for your eyes to spot something so small.

Bed Bugs nests are usually found within 3 meters of the 8 locations listed  here.

The best way to find them is to look for physical evidence.

You're looking for bed bug poop stains like the ones above. If you do have bed bugs this is what you're likely to find first.

Finding an actual bug is very difficult because of their size and perhaps lack of numbers, so concentrate on looking for the poop spots first. In larger infestations you may also find shed skins, dead bugs and perhaps tiny nymphs or eggs.

Inspect your mattress and box spring piping often. Look carefully at the seams in family beds, couches and upholstered furniture.

Bed Bugs are about the thickness of a credit card. Take a flashlight and credit card with you when inspecting cracks in drawers, baseboards, headboards, night tables, anything with a credit card sized crack.

Other places to check out include. The corners in your rooms, wall outlets, lights installed above the bed, under loose wallpaper, in electronics.
